The White River Watershed has Received Special Attention!

The White River Watershed Partnership has long recognized that the White River Watershed is a unique resource that needs protection.  The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has recognized this need and has awarded grant funds to work in the watershed.  The Annis Water Resources Institute of Grand Valley State University has received $154,918 from DEQ to reduce the negative impact that nonpoint source pollutants are having on the watershed through the development and initial implementation of a stakeholder-driven watershed management plan.  The White River Watershed Partnership, the White Lake Association, the Muskegon Conservation District, the White Lake Public Advisory Council, and the Annis Water Resources Institute have committed match to the project bringing the project total to $177,000.  The preliminary project start date is November 1st, 2006 and will be two years long.  Project updates, events, and volunteer opportunities will be posted on the White River Watershed Partnership website and in the newsletter.  If you have any questions please contact Nichol De Mol, Annis Water Resources Institute, demoln@gvsu.edu or (616) 331-3092.
