Town Hall Meeting on Water Withdraw and Export Issues

Muskegon Community College

Collegiate Hall

Attention:

Representative Doug Bennett

Representative Mary Valentine

Senator Gerald VanWoerkom

On behalf of the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, I wish to forward to each of you an important viewpoint in relation to water use legislation currently being debated in the state capital.

The building blocks of the economy in the White Lake area are its natural water resources. The lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands not only make this a special place to live but have also become our number one product to market and attract visitors and tourists.

Because of this, the White Lake Area Chamber supports the legislation package endorsed by the Great Lakes, Great Michigan coalition, as containing the strongest protection necessary for the precious water resources of our area and the state of Michigan.

The export of water will have a negative economic impact on our tourism and commerce. Any depletion of these natural resources will be detrimental to our community. The preservation of our water systems is crucial and all forms of government should have some level of responsibility in maintaining and
retaining our natural resources now and for the future.

Thank you for your interest, your participation and for listening to the concerns of those who care deeply about the valuable water resources in our communities.

Sincerely,.

Amy L. VanLoon, Executive Director

White Lake Area Chamber Of Commerce
